Thou Oh Lord are a SHIELD about me. (Psalm 3: 3)

The Lord is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. (Psalm 18:2)

When the enemy comes in Like a flood, the battle belongs to the Lord… (1 Sam. 17:47)

When we are attacked by the enemy of our souls, the one who comes to rob, kill and destroy us, we are admonished, by Paul, to put on our armor. (Read Ephesians 6) This is something I do daily and sometimes throughout the day. When we put on our armor we are putting on Jesus. He is our salvation, our righteousness, our truth, our peace, the author and finisher of our faith, and He is The Word of God.
There something else that hit me when I was going through a very severe attack recently. These usually come as unwanted thoughts and can be very disconcerting as they come from nowhere. These are, in my opinion the fiery darts that Paul talks about.
These thoughts had come in like a flood and it was at this moment, The Spirit of the Living God impressed upon me this praise song: Thou oh Lord are a shield about me. Then, He gave me the other two scriptures.
What impressed me was this. The Lord Himself is our shield. He is the one who covers us as we are really no match for enemy on our own. It is His power, His might that we call upon. It is His battle not ours. Yes, we have authority in Jesus. I understand that, but in the end it is He who is our rock, our high tower, our fortress, who is a shield about us.
So with that in mind. Whatever it is that faces us we must understand that He is our shield. He will protect us and save us and He will present us before His presence with singing.
Are you being attacked? Pray out loud: Lord, be my shield today. Cover me. Set me apart and bring your peace to me so that I may serve you and the people you bring across my path.
Thou, Oh Lord are a shield about me!
Please continue to pray:

Sunday Bun – Ephesians 6, Comparison.

BunSunday Bun!

13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
There is a difference between a man or woman who has been born again by the Spirit of the Living God and the man or woman who has not and lives according to the “flesh.”  Let’s compare.
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth.
The Spirit filled person puts on the truth that is found in the Word of God.  It is the basis for everything we encounter while living here, on planet earth and serves as a plumb-bob, a measuring line for all we do.
The natural man creates his or hers own truth, sometimes changing at a whim.  Situational ethics are a good example of this and can be seen in full operation when the Planned Parenthood Lady munching on her salad and drinking her wine talks about harvesting baby parts.
and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
The Spirit Filled person knows his or hers righteousness, is as filthy rags. We know that our righteousness is in our Messiah, as we all fall short and do things we are not proud of.  We put on His righteousness.
The natural man boasts of his own goodness but does not realize he or she will die in their sins.
And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace
The Spirit Filled person realizes and knows by experience where their peace comes from.  It hails from the Prince of Peace, The Messiah, Yeshua/Jesus.  It can be a peace that passes all understanding in times of trouble and when facing the storms of life.
The natural man finds peace in his or hers possessions, their saving for retirement, their beach house, or new car, investments or, sometimes for middle-aged men, a “trophy” wife.  All of which will never give lasting peace and will pass away and all to soon loose its luster.
Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Yeshua/Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith.  It is He who helps us to stand in the day of adversity.  We know by experience that He is more than able to come to our aid.  We also realize that we are in a spiritual battle, a heavenly war and that our King will return soon.
The natural man has faith in the things he has acquired, his job, or his accomplishments.  His faith is based solely upon his own deeds and in himself.
And take the helmet of salvation,
The one who is filled with the Spirit of the Living God, knows his or hers salvation comes from the work on the cross that was accomplished almost 2000 years ago.  We know that apart from Yeshua/Jesus, there is no salvation by any other name.  It is He who died for all of mankind’s sins.
The natural man or woman thinks there is no need for salvation as there is no God and no absolute truth.  There is no afterlife or judgement thus there is nothing to be “saved” from.
and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
For us the Sword of the Spirit is our primary weapon.  We know when Yeshua/Jesus was tempted in the desert He answered the Fallen One by stating emphatically: It is written.  He answered the accusations and false truths presented to Him with the Word of God.  He parried the lies from the enemy with the truth that is found in the word.
The natural man or woman does not have the faintest idea of what the sword of the spirit is and thus they are and can be caught up in the worlds system which is controlled by the Fallen One.
In closing todays Bun:  I was once blind to the things of the spirit.  I lived according to my flesh and there was no standard, no truth in my life.  When I became born again, by the Spirit of the Living God, everything changed.  He is our peace, our hope, our truth, our salvation, our righteousness, and our faith is in Him.

2 Corinthians 10:5

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

I’ve covered this before but as I was on my run yesterday I felt that I needed to go back over it.  It’s OK, as there’s always another skin of the onion to uncover.

The mind is where we hold our thoughts.  No one knows what we are thinking.  Here’s what I mean.  We can be sitting next to our wife in church and looking at the woman in a pew across the aisle in a lustful way!  We can be smiling while talking to someone and acting like they are our friend but our minds are steeped in bitterness towards this individual and who knows?  We can say one thing and inwardly know we mean exactly the opposite of what we are saying.

We can imagine that we are more than what we are, that we should have this job or drive that car, or live in some mansion somewhere.  We can all think to highly of ourselves.  We can entertain imaginations, or as some translations say, vain imaginations.  It all happens in our thought life.  The mind is truly the battle ground.  James warns us against this when he admonishes us:

 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and sin when it is fully grown brings forth death. (James 1:14)

A thought comes in to our minds.  If we do not take charge of it, if we do not check it at the door of scripture and what the word of God tells us, we are in big trouble.  If we entertain it, before we know it, we are captured by it and it has control over us.

This is why knowing what is actually in the Bible arms us with the truth and allows us  to distinguish right from wrong.

For the word of God—the Bible—is alive and active.  Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.  (Hebrews 4:12)

When a thought comes in that is contrary to the word of God we are to take charge of it.  We are to cast it out, annihilate with prayer, and bring it into captivity.  In other words we make sure we are in control of it, not the thought in control of us.  This is the charge of every believer.

In closing todays Bun:  I have a “quiver” of arrows on my iPhone.  These are scriptures I use in warfare, some I have committed to memory, others are old friends and I literally wash my mind with these when the unwanted thoughts begin, or I am tempted.  The good news is this, once the spirit of the Living God is in us, it is He who will help us with this.  Then, when we put on the armor of God that we read about in Ephesians 6, we are armed to do battle and we can take every thought captive.

We can and should as believers walk in the victory!
