John 8: 36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed!
I love this verse as it speaks volumes! It reaches out to us and gives us the good news that we can be free, for there is one who has transcended time and death, who is able to free us from whatever it is that holds us in bondage. I remember when I first came to the Him 32 years ago, the first thing he freed me from was my addiction to nicotine. I was a three pack a day human chimney. I prided myself on always having a cigarette going, sometimes chain-smoking one to another. He took it away. I awakened one morning and tried to light up and couldn’t do it. There was no withdrawal or will power on my part, He took the desire to smoke and the addiction that went with it away. In short He set me free!
Whatever we find ourselves struggling with He is greater and can lift the oppression from us. It doesn’t matter what the thing that holds us in bondage is, He is greater than it. When Jesus gives us the good news in John 8, he is assuring all that would come after – that would be us – that the Son can and is willing to set us free. There are those who are being harassed by demons, or so-called aliens, the good news is that calling on Jesus can set them free. There are those who are addicted to pornography, the good news is that Jesus can set you free! Some are caught in the web of bitterness, He can set you free! It doesn’t matter what the sin is, or how bad we might view it, Jesus can take it and set us free. The enemy will seek to keep us in shame, and think that we will never be free, that is a lie. We can be free and while sometimes it is a battle, when the Son makes us free in a certain area we are free indeed.
In closing todays bun: Nothing can separate us from the love of Jesus. Nothing. Since we sin we have an advocate, a heavenly priest who is more than able to intercede on our behalf. We have the victory, although it may require us to pray and keep praying until we get the total victory. We must learn to be patient with ourselves, however we must also be angry at the sin and not sin. When we stumble in the same area of weakness the enemy want to keep us down, as he comes to rob, kill and destroy, but we should instead get ticked off, really angry because we realize the Fallen One is keeping us from our destiny! This anger is good and we can muster it to fight off the fiery darts the enemy will throw at us in order to keep us ensnared in sin. Be angry and do not sin. Let us go to the Son and ask to be set free. He will do it! For if the Son sets us free we are free indeed!
I would like to thank Pastors Mike and Matt for making the Oceanside conference a success. Thanks to Dan, the sound man for hooking me up! Thanks to all who attended the conference! It was great to see some of you again, sorry I embarrassed you Late-night- Lisa, but I didn’t recognize you at first! Peg and I had dinner last night with Matt and Yvonne and we almost closed the place as we talked for hours. Peg and I are taking Monday and Tuesday off so I won’t be posting those days.
