2Ti 1:7: For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
There is a lot that is going on in this world. We are on the verge of an economic collapse in Europe. The Arab Spring is becoming the Arab winter of discontent. Earthquakes continue as with the 6.5 in Mexico yesterday. A blood red, eclipsing, moon may hold a portend of coming war, in the Middle East. These are just a few of the topics that I cover on this BLOG on a daily basis. It can become overwhelming. Yet, we are told by Yashua/Jesus that when we see these things begin to happen we are to look up, because our redemption/salvation/rescue, is on the way.
We should never embrace fear. As a friend of mine Gary, once told me, fear is the currency of hell and faith the currency of heaven. They are in fact mutually exclusive of one another. So when we look at what is going on all around us, the chaos, uncertainty, rumors of war, floods, earthquakes, and volcanic activity, we should not be fearful, because we know that these are the signs of His coming. Of course the natural man or women does not have this reassurance and so they have little choice except to live in fear, or ignore the gathering storm altogether.
But there is more to this one simple line of scripture written almost 2000 years ago. We are to walk in power. That power comes from the Spirit of the Living God. We do nothing to earn it nor can we manipulate it in any way. It’s ours for the asking when we need it in times like these. It is the power of the living God that is reflected in the gifts of the spirit that we are told are available to the believer. We are to walk in those gifts and when a situation arises we should ask for the gift that we need to bring His victory into the situation. In short, its supernatural gifting that we need in times like the ones in which we find ourselves. We can have peace that passes understanding, in human terms, as we walk through the chaos that surrounds us. That peace can only come from the Prince of peace, Jesus.
The hallmark of the early Christian church was the love that they had for one another. The ancient world had to invent a new word for it and it is the Greek word Agape. It is the fruit of being born from above into the Kingdom of the living God. To have His spirit reside in us. To have ongoing fellowship with the savior of our souls. Again, we cannot produce agape love, only He can and He does so as we walk with Him.
FInally, we are told that we have a sound mind. A mind that is not clouded in fear or uncertainty. A mind that is renewed with the daily washing of the word. A mind that can discern the things of the spirit, that is steadfast in the knowledge of Yashua the anointed one.
In closing today’s Bun: These are uncertain times, fraught with turbulence and tumult. We would do well to memorize this verse and put it in our quiver of “arrows” to shoot back at the accuser when we become overwhelmed by the news of the day.
