Psalm 46:10  Be still, and know that I [am] God:

We live in a world of cell phones ringing, text messages pinging, planes that whisk us from one corner of the globe to the other, satellites which circle the planet relaying news at the speed of “live;” in short, I believe we are in the time we hear about in Daniel when the angel tells him: Men will run to and fro over the face of the earth and knowledge will increase.

We are on information overload as most of us are bombarded with messages and images all day long.  Many of us never sit in silence without any distractions and when and if we do we see our mind racing and thoughts interrupting one another.  Yet, we are admonished to be still and know that I am God.

We can practice this anywhere if we choose to as we don’t have to head out to the desert and find a cave to be still.  With practice we can be still anywhere.  We can teach ourselves to retreat inwardly and wait on Him.  Here’s what I mean.  I can be driving on the freeways of Los Angeles and hit gridlock.  I can sit in my car and complain about it or I can take a deep breath and wait on Him.  I can  be still in the midst of the traffic jam and begin to pray, or praise Him, thanking Him for the gift of life and the gift of salvation, through His son Jesus.  I want to make it clear this is not linked in any way to Eastern meditation, like repeating a mantra over and over again.  I take a deep breath and even with my eyes open, relax in Him.  I can begin to pray for those who I know need it, like Gary or Hector.

His peace passes our understanding and the world can not give us this peace.  There are people who are always busy, who have the TV or radio on all day and night.  They never sit still and seek His face.  Even in our churches the service goes from one “event” to the next, the congregation does not be still and know.

It is wonderful when we sit in His presence and rest in Him.

Jesus tells us: Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

When we are still we often find His peace is given to us.

Be still and know that I Am God…..

I had my moment at 3:00 am this morning, laying in bed a very bright star caught my attention, I got up looked out the window at the stars, I saw the sails of a ship of the constellation Vela , enjoying the stillness, the quite everything was made perfect, there was peace knowing that the captain of this great ship sails in our direction to take us where he is also.

    • LookingUp said

That’s nice, Pudding. Thanks. Sail on.

    • Pudding said

Ahoy! I’m booked just waiting for the sail date. See ya’ll there.
BTW, When I went to bed it was 3:33 am 3/3/2013

Pudding, you brought this flooding back to my mind!

    • LookingUp said

Yes, you will. Interesting about the time. I went through three weeks a few years back were I woke up every morning at 4:24. If I woke up looking at the clock, it was 4:24. If I had to roll over to look at the clock, it was 4:24. If I didn’t look at it right away, when I did, it was 4:24. Creepy. Finally dawned on me one morning to not look at the clock until it was daylight. By that time, I was almost obsessed with it, and it was hard to not let myself look. :) .

Moonpie, Thanks wonderful song if I had heard this before it would have come back to my memory too at the time. I went to bed about 12:30 am. prayed as usual about 20 min. (I actually prayed for that one on one time with God) I felt the Holy Spirit then all just went quite so I then tried to go to sleep but the more I tried the more energy I got, could not sleep rolled over over till 3:00 am and the partially moon lit sky shone through the window and a star so so bright out the window caught my attention, the star was a star of the Southern Cross which was abnormally bright to the right of that a beautiful pattern of stars abnormally bright, I fired up the puter to look at my astronomy program and it was Vela, enjoyed it all then went to bed at 3:33, woke up in the morning thanking God for the precious touch of coincidence. Then I looked the following up:

      Cancer (the crab or gatherer) – Christ gathers the multitude together from affliction to joyous safety with renewed life;
Ursa minor (the small bear or dipper or ladle or plough) – the heavenly dwelling, the fold on high – Christ is the hope of glory and he is waiting to gather the flock or herd
Ursa major (the big bear or dipper or ladle or plough) – Christ organizes the final gathering into the fold, the full harvest, and the hope comes to pass
Argo Navis (the ship or Carina/keel, Puppis/stern, Vela/sail, and Pyxis/director; this includes the cluster of the southern Pleiades; all together this is the largest constellation and it is second in brightness to Sirius) – Christ recovers all redeemed people from the enemy’s power and he brings the travelers safely home
      Job 9:9, 38:32; Psalm 147:1-5; Isaiah 51:11, 61:1 and 2; Jeremiah 30:10, 31:10 and 11; Ezekiel 34:11-16; Matthew 3:12, 23:37, 24:27-31, 25:32-34; John 10:1-18, 14:1-3; Romans 9:23-28; I Corinthians 15:23-28 and 51-58; Galatians 3:13 and 14; Ephesians 1:3, 10 and 18-23, 2:6 and 11-13, 3:7-12; Colossians 1:27; I Thessalonians 4:13-18; II Thessalonians 2:1; II Timothy 4:18; Titus 1:2; Hebrews 3:1, 6:13-20, 11:8-19, 12:22; I Peter 1:3, 13 and 18-21, 2:9; II Peter 1:11; Revelation chapters 20-22.

Fascinating. Also, the 3:33 time has been a constant theme my entire life. A.M. or P.M. I have seven clocks and all are set to different times, some fifteen min. fast, some ten min. slow, and in between. But it never fails, the one I check the time on is 3:33.( Face palm,) I do not yet know if there is a meaning to it.

Thanks for the link, Pudding. I had read Job countless times before the Holy Spirit stopped me one day at Job 38:9-10 and then lead me to the discovery of the Mazzaroth. This link is better than anything I’ve found. It’s mindboggling to me how few believers know about this. Truly, the heavens declare the glory of God.

LU, Man what a bad time to wake up to 4:24 am, I would find it hard to go back to sleep. Moonpie I had similar problems but with 333 and 777 for the longest time but they occurred during the PM, thank God.

A few years back I was impressed on by the Holy Spirit to learn the constellations out of the blue, I did so, then taught my wife and where ever we traveled we took the netbook with stellarium program to help chart and memorize, since I was being led I thought the Lord was going to lead me to a better understanding of the relationship of the Gospel in the stars, that did not happen, maybe it is starting too? I am a bit of a donkey I want to learn if from the heart and not so much by the mind. Job 38:9-10 really got my attention too, I am interested to learn more as the Lord is willing to teach me.

      Keep looking up!

    • moonpieeyes said

I absolutely get the ‘knowledge from the heart over mind’. My mind set up blocks to understanding. As far as looking up, I tend not to any more, especially at night, unless I have an extra set of eyes with me as witness to what I see, (have seen). I do look up from within though. :)

    • LookingUp said

Isn’t it funny what we don’t think about? We all know that Satan counterfieis everything, so pagan horoscopes had to have been taken from the constellations that the Father created. Chuck Missler has done some studies on the Mazzaroth. I haven’t had much success finding Jewish sources which isn’t surprising, since the circle of constellations testify about Jesus. Signs in the sky indeed.

One of the most refreshing finds for me was when I realized the law was given to bring us to Christ…..This scripture reveals to me that Christ is our sabbath.
    Hebrews 4:1-10 (KJV)
1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
7 Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.

    • Pudding said

Beyond refreshing. Every time I hear people bickering over the Sabbath I scratch my head and at the same moment it causes me to rejoice in myself in Christ, my redemption, his sacrifice and God’s grace, this is what it is all about.

    • Pudding said

This was from 1873, if Mr. Finney could only see what it is like now he would probable say, I knew this would happen.
I have never listened to Joel Osteen but since his name keeps coming up I decided to watch a video I randomly found:

15 minutes of the video was enough for me, he threw out 2-3 bible verses conveniently, was quite entertaining, it seemed like I was at a motivational seminar at a hotel. The sermon was entitled the “Power of I Am” considering that “I AM” is the most important name in the bible, I expected to hear about God, sadly it was not about the “I AM” it was about ME. I wish I could send this video back in time to
Mr. Finney to show him that we have found an effective way to bypass the law and claim grace through faith in grace itself(Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof).

    • Rose from Kentucky said

EXACTLY! Finney would definitely have a problem with society today, and blame that on the churches.

Remember, Finney was one of the evangelists who were involved in the Second Great Awakening in America. He would preach in areas where people would repent in mass, and those areas would become “holiness zones.” So much that, the few scoffers who were left dropped dead.

      It was very serious business.

    • Pudding said

Rose, I did not know anything about Mr. Finney or the awakening, but I do know a tad bit more now, thanks. I find it very interesting to look back in time. It is interesting to see a stadium sized church white washing the man to a better self esteem conforming himself to to better tolerate this world, but where is that spirit of adoption that cries Abba, Father, the same spirit that loves not this world or the flesh he is imprisoned in? I am onboard with Mr. Finney.

Nothing new under the sun. Same ol’ story with a new set of characters.

  9. I believe the Lord God is speaking to many people to “be still and know that I am God” because I’ve been seeing people asking for peace and I,too, have been lining myself up in agreement with His peace that surpasses all understanding.

    Timely word and much needed.

    Blessings,

Good bun, L.A. Also, just a reminder that The Bible miniseries starts tonight on the History Channel at 8:00 EST. I saw the couple who produced it, on The O’Reilly Factor a few nights ago. They say they have stuck to the biblical text and have not added or taken away from the word of God. I will watch it because of this. Also, Bill O’Reilly really chastised the couple because of their literal approach to the Word of God. He actually was incredulous that they believed that the Lord created Adam and Eve, the garden, Jonah, etc. He really raked them over the coals. Now many of us know that Bill O’Reilly is not a believer. He is a secular Catholilc, but I know a lot of my friends were shocked at his disdain for the Bible. Oh Lord…………Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Oh Lord…………Thy Word have I hid in my heart that I might not sin against Thee. Blessed be the Name of the Lord. Pray for Bill O’Reilly that he might know Jesus as Lord and Savior and not as his judge!

Let’s face it. This is the History Channel which has been pushing an obvious anti-God/anti-Christian/pro Alien/pro nonsense agenda for years. Why would they suddenly promote something Biblically sound? It isn’t going to happen.

I’m sure it’ll be a “family friendly/clean” high end production and I’m not slamming anyone that wants to watch it (I’m not) but I would caution folks to go into this thing with the Bible nearby and the discernment shields at maximum.

One of the problems is some of the mega churches such as Lakewood feel they have to entertain their congregation…and of course some of the smaller churches try to do the same as they want to try their best to compete with the big kids on the block. The whole church experience is more of a Vegas style show now, there has to be a Wow factor to keep the people in the seats and the collection plates piled high …but what do you expect when behind the pulpit is a theological lightweight? The pastor could have an excellent message but if there wasn’t a built replica of the Ark behind him and the 100,000 watt light show for the praise and worship portion of the service, it would be considered a disappointment

The Scripture says that in the last days the love of the great body of people will grow cold. People will be so busy, they’ll be focused on their own needs, and they’ll be so caught up in their drive for success they won’t take time to make a difference. But scripture also says to ‘Set your mind on the things which are above.’
When Joel’s father passed away and he took over the ministry full time, he was quoted as saying ““I don’t want this to sound arrogant, but I believe one day we’re going to have 100,000 a weekend,” And his comments on the new building ,light and sound system ““I do think it will allow us to go to a whole new level that people have never even dreamed of for churches,” Keep in mind the church has- eight giant video screens, 12 elevators, three escalators, two waterfalls, 241 toilets and 65 urinals and parking for more than 7,000 vehicles. The church also added a five-story wing, featuring Lakewood’s television studio; classrooms for kindergarten through high school students; a chapel/auditorium for weddings, funerals and baptisms; and a café….
So there you have it in a nutshell, they are not there to minster to people, make no mistake about it, they are there to entertain you. They want to take you on that spiritual high for an hour and half…where emotions run deep and the odds are better of getting into your pocket book .There is no opportunity in these places to be quite and seek the face of the Lord.
After one service there I quietly pull one of the many assistant pastors aside and ask why there was not an alter call at any time before, during or after churches services… I told him you can’t assume everyone that walks through the door is saved and knows the Lord. I’m telling you, the look on his face was priceless. As soon as I said it I realized this was not a question to be asked. As one poster said on this blog a few days ago, don’t rock the boat” we are doing just fine.
If you want to have quite time with the Lord, a prayer closet at home is an better option, as churches today don’t feel its necessary to wait and let God move or hears his voice.

    • Eric W. said

      Right on.

You can have people in Smilin’ Joe’s church or Mr. Chrislam Rick Warren’s church for ten years who never hear the Gospel even ONE time. Speaks for itself.

Entertainment is a counterfeit for joy. Every human heart longs for joy, but the only way to experience joy is through a real relationship with Christ. And that only comes through real repentance from sin (not fire insurance) and obedience to His word.
It does not surprise me that churches who have rejected teaching that God abhors sin and that we need to rid ourselves of it would replace joy for entertainment.

Read the sermon I posted above “The Decay of Conscience.” Finney had a lot to say on this subject.

Thanks, LA. Pretty much sums it up from Genesis 1:1 through Revelation 22:21. Why do we try to make it so hard?

  23. Psalm 37 also points to being still… and taking note of what becomes of the wayward and the wicked.
Best to learn from history and not repeat their follies.

netflix carries the PBS show on Percy Fawcett, an Amazon river area explorer from early last century — motivated by Blavatsky….

Fawcett was looking for lost cities of “ascended masters,” among others such nonsense. He and his son were lost and never found again.

The PBS show goes well beyond the failed Fawcett expedition to describe earth-works that are more and more exposed by Amazon deforestation. They seem different than the nephilim mounds since they’re dug in vice built up.

It’s likewise worth reviewing Leviticus 26:40+ regarding what happened with ancestors and their covenants with God.

    • for those inclined to explore the amazon… you might try different infrared vegetation overlays in google earth…

I’m trying to get your connection between God’s warnings and exhortations to the Jews in Leviticus with the rest of your post.

    • LU,

Learning the lessons of history is the point.

The covenants and promises with all those that have gone before us are not only still in effect — they’re active. The greater cloud of witnesses includes ancestors of not only the Israelites and the Jews, but out of every nation, tribe, tongue, and people. And we can expect Almighty God to be consistent in His interactions with all humans.

[note: If... Then... The remnant have already met the conditions.]
      Leviticus 26
40 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me,
      and that also they have walked contrary unto me;
      41 And that I also have walked contrary unto them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies;
if then their uncircumcised hearts be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:

42 Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac,
and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.
43 The land also shall be left of them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them:
and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity: because, even because they despised my judgments,
and because their soul abhorred my statutes.

44 And yet for all that, when they be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away,
neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them: for I am the LORD their God.
45 But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors,
whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I am the LORD.

46 These are the statutes and judgments and laws,
which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.

      Exceeding great and precious promises!

Hey, Nome. I am a literalist when it comes to Scripture; we may be blessed by honoring the principles God gives to Israel, but the promises were made to her, not to us. For example, He did not make a land covenant with believers – we have a heaven convenant. We come into covenant with the Father on an individual basis, not as a nation or group. The only nation and nationality that God has made covenants with is the Jews.

    • LU,

This life, this world, and whatever is in it is transient at best. Why worry about sand castles? Where your treasure is — that’s where your heart is — best in Heaven. For those who have gained the Kingdom of Heaven, there’s nothing in this world that substitutes.

My church is in Heaven. The greater cloud of witnesses is my family. They include True Israel, along with those who have come out of all the other nations, tribes, tongues, and peoples. I’m happy for those from Israel to gain in any form or fashion. Same for any others in the family — IN HEAVEN. Those on earth can still be fooling themselves, but not those in Heaven. All that call themselves saved are not; hence apostates.

Then there’s the inheritance of Christ. Not in the least the fullness of the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit, poured out without measure to Christ, extended through Him to those who ask for more His Spirit. Given for the good of all, not for hording.

I need not claim anything of the promises and covenants given to another in the Family of God. My riches and blessing is Christ Himself. I treasure His Word beyond measure. Understanding and revelation in The Word are the type of gifts that provide more and more forever.

Partly because they enable me to know the Almighty so much better — His mind, His heart, His will. His way… I’m happy to share. Those that have plenty in whatever form or fashion can do likewise if inclined. And no doubt they will as part of the Household of God. That’s their blessing to give.

So there’s no reason to claim anything beyond what we’ve been given.

I have no idea if I have any claim to anything of Israel. My natural step-dad, who legally fully adopted me and my sister, might, since his mother was Jewish. I met her early in life. I can’t even tell you if she was saved. We’ll see, soon enough.

    • Now my step-brother and step-sisters may have bloodline claims. No idea for sure. One of my step-sisters is no doubt fully saved, Spirit filled, and active in ministry with Christ, along with her husband, and her daughter’s family. I hope they do have the bloodline blessings — along with all that comes with full salvation in Christ.

      Y’shua be praised !!

It’s interesting to grow up “grafted in.”

Nicely put, Nome, but it makes your inclusion of the Leviticus verses even more confusing. It’s probably just me. Enjoy the blessings of your day. Maranatha.

  24. Excellent discription of resting in His arms. When I pray I imagine in my mind that I am within deep space, picturing how Eternal Father is everywhere and connected to everything, a Cosmic Consciousness, which helps me focus on the ones I am praying for. It is so peaceful, entering into and being wrapped within His embrace….like entering into the fibers that keeps all connected. Thank you Jesus for making it possible. No more separation, when we go through Jesus Christ, our Lord.

While I hear be still and know that I am God; I’m also hearing Cream playback in my mind. Did anyone notice that the resignation of the pope, I think, occurred on February 28, 2013. Isn’t this day an 18? 6+6+6?

“White Room” by Jack Bruce and Pete Brown -Cream

In the white room with black curtains near the station.
Blackroof country, no gold pavements, tired starlings.
Silver horses ran down moonbeams in your dark eyes.
Dawnlight smiles on you leaving, my contentment.
    I’ll wait in this place where the sun never shines;
Wait in this place where the shadows run from themselves.

Anyway, good though L.A., it’s hard to be still, when we are all so encouraged not be homo sapiens but homo faber.
