Sunday Go To Meeting Bun

by

L. A. Marzulli

Psalm 37: Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for Him; Do not fret because of him who prospers in his way, Because of the man who brings wicked schemes to pass.

Our world is spinning faster and faster as we are wired together and linked by the Internet and satellite TV.  News travels at the speed of live and we are inundated with information overload.  It is a completely different world than 50 years ago, it moves much faster.   Many of us are so caught up in it that we don’t realize that we don’t take time to rest.   I’m not talking about a two-week vacation either.   Last year when I was desperate for a vacation the Lord intervened and said:  Your vacation and your rest comes from me.  In other words, we can try to find peace and rest on our own through travel, a ski trip, a golf weekend, or any of the other countless activities that we are privy to in the modern age.  However, while all of these activities are fun and worthwhile, let us not assume for a moment that peace and rest can be found in any of them.   There is only one Prince of Peace and His name is Yashua/Jesus.   Chuck Smith once said that grace and peace are the Siamese twins of the Pauline Epistles.   Grace is unmerited favor that we don’t deserve, yet it is abundantly available for us.  The peace that He gives to us is not found in the world or through any activity.  It is, I believe, a supernatural peace that is given to us freely by the Spirit of the  Living God!

In closing today’s Bun:  We must learn not only to ask for peace and grace, but ask Him for rest in our lives.   We should learn how to wait on the Lord.  To understand how be anxious for nothing.   If He is in control then He knows what we are going through.  Whatever the storm is in our lives, we can find peace through Him who saved us in the first place.   The world will never understand this and so it pursues activities, wealth, pleasure and everything else under the sun, in order to find peace, but it is not found in those things.   Let’s rest in Him today and know that He loves us and cares for us.  The JOY of the Lord is our strength and I would add to that our peace as well!

Great bun! And timely for me today!!!! I can’t find anyplace where Christ told us to change the sabbath day so I keep my store closed on Saturdays unless a lost picture framing sheep calls me LOL. And yesterday I felt the need to really rest and pray but somehow I found myself just puttering from room to room at home…..not working at anything but listening to Christian mp3s and internet radio…..but somehow I seem to have accomplished some house chores and “stuff” that I had been letting slide without even realizing that I was doing it!

:) Elaine that’s exactly how I do all my work lol Makes it an after thought that I’m working! Then I also acquire so much info!, can study God’s word and I can pass by rerun something if I missed it, or need to hear it again . I can also pick what I want to fill my head with!

I guess I am a late bloomer? 60 years old and while I KNOW I can stay in contact with Him no matter what I am doing during my work week…..I usually try to “pray hard” study and worship on the sabbath….well, unless that lost sheep framing customer needs me….but yesterday I did a day of rest….hard to describe that. Instead of on the knees time, I gave myself no task or specific subject to pray about….kind of a sabbath stay-cation day and I really am amazed at the things He helped me accomplish while I thought I was doing nothing! Funny joke from God….when I finally stop to just listen to Him and keep my big mouth shut….He tells me to clean up! Some odd jobs that I really did not realize I was doing….and some that I had put off for weeks!

    Thank You LA,

I am always amazed how GOD speaks to me when I need it the most. My wife and I are going through a lot of personal
problems, not between each other, but a long list of things. I went through a week long period of depression about a month ago
and have been praying about it a lot. GOD has answered me in little ways since and in the message today. Do not fret over him that brings wickedness. My joy comes from the LORD. Happiness seems to be based on our situation, but our JOY from HIM who guards over and loves us.

May GOD Bless each of you in a special way this week and fill you with JOY!

    • Linda said

Very well put Ben and so true! “Happiness seems to be based on our situation, but our JOY from HIM who guards over and loves us.”

Blessed is the man/women who learns this truth!

L.A. I’ve heard C. Smith say that also years ago ” Chuck Smith once said that grace and peace are the Siamese twins of the Pauline Epistles. ” When we can walk away from it all if needed we are finally free to Trust our Savior with whatever comes!

Thanks for you timely words of encouragement and a reminder our help is “In the Lord” (where all believers have been placed)and our Peace also! That wonderful peace that surpasses all understanding!!

Ben I’m sure as I, all here are sending a prayer up to God for you and your wife!

We can rest our bodies and try to take time out from this world, but we can not truly rest from this sinful world until Jesus comes again.

Acts 3:21 [Jesus]…whom the heaven must receive until the times of restoration of all things.

The Lord’s rest will come to us when he restores earth to what it was originally intended (the garden of Eden). That is our “seventh day”. I believe when God speaks of “rest” he means rest from sin. Although through Jesus we have been granted that rest, we will not actually experience it until all things are restored.

Hebrews 4:3 although his works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For he has somewhere spoken of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all his works.” … “8 For if Joshua had given them rest, God[b] would not have spoken of another day later on. 9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. 11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest.

    Zechariah 4
6: …This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts.
7 Who art thou, O great mountain? before Zerubbabel thou shalt become a plain:
and he shall bring forth the headstone thereof with shoutings, crying, Grace, grace unto it.

    Psalm 118
21 I will praise thee: for thou hast heard me, and art become my salvation.
22 The stone which the builders refused is become the headstone of the corner.
23 This is the LORD’S doing; it is marvellous in our eyes.
24 This is the day which the LORD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.

    Mathew 21
42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures,
The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?
43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof.
44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

    Acts 4
10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified,
whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

    1st Peter 2
2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3 If so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.
4 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious,
5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

7 Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,
8 And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, even to them which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
    9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people;
that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:
10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.

    1st Timothy 3
15 But if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
16 And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

    Zechariah 14
3 Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle.
4 And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east,
and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west,
and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south.

The millennial kingdom is also that day of rest granted to this present creation.

      Romans 8
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

      Deuteronomy 33
1 And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death.
2 And he said, The LORD came from Sinai, and rose up from Seir unto them; he shined forth from mount Paran,
and he came with ten thousands of saints: from his right hand went a fiery law for them.

      Jude
14 And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints…

      Revelation 20 (Rev. 7:13-14)
4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them:
and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God,
and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands
      ;
and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

Not in the least because Yahshua is our rest and refreshing. (from suffering and labor to R&R, Hebrews 4:7-9)

It’s amazing how a remnant out of Israel hear Peter’s words and were saved while other Brethern would not hear!

      “10 Which in time past were not a people,(before Abrahm) but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy(before Abrahm), but now have obtained mercy.” Called out (of darkness)by God to be His people and obtain mercy/salvation through Jesus Christ the Promised One! ” 9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people;
that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:”

“5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
6 Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.”

Before they “had” a temple, a priesthood and offered sacrifices, but now they became the temple, a holy priesthood and the sacrifices they would offer would be spiritual preparing them for the day when they would reign with Christ in Jerusalem ruling over all the nations.

Everything that will be is hidden in God’s word! Jesus/the Logos! We just read “over” things and sometimes miss the messages. Jesus wept for His Brethern knowing they all wouldn’t be saved, but a remnant would. Paul wept and said he’d give himself if he could save his Brethern.

We who are believers know the joy of being accepted in the Beloved, His Grace and being grafted in, oh how much joy those of His Brethern must feel to know they too are accepted even after crucifying Him, the Son of God the one they were to watch for and know the time of His arrival.

Linda, I wonder what Paul and these (Acts 6:7) are feeling right now, there with Christ in heaven…

      Acts 6
7 And the word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.

  7. Hope you enjoy this video. It’s a great way to remember this scripture in Philippians 4:6-7

Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I try to use Saturday as my Day of Rest, and “chill out”. Not strictly, but kept in mind. We are “Grafted into Israel as a wild branch”, …not “hooked up” withe European customs and traditions.

The only Sunday that was kept was Pentecost Sunday, and that was once per year. (7 Sabbaths shall ye keep, and the next day is Pentecost, on the Israelite Calendar).

In effect, the practising Jews have 52 days off per year….plus about a 10 day time of rest in Spring, mostly to do house-cleaning…and about a 2 week time off in Fall….The end result, was that their homes were cleaner as they had to “Get the Leaven Out”.

Also, the Israelites were required to give their land a One Year Rest, every 7 years. Good or best farming practise, I suspose.

Speaking of calendars: This past Saturday, February 11th was George Washington’s birthday, ok for that. However, He literally had two birthdays, 2/11/1732 as well as 2/22/1732, These two dates were posted on our calendars in the early 1960’s, when I delivered newspapers.

This is a fact. The reason how that happened was that we went from the Julian Calendar to the Gregorian Calendar system on Feb. 11th, 1732. And this required that we add 11 days, in order to do the change and also do an update.

This month we have 29 days, instead of 28 days; because 2012 is a Leap Year, so we have to add one day…

Rest is an elusive thing, coming and going like the tides. But the peace that passes all understanding is a true gift for anyone who shares in intimacy with Christ.
