Wayne Kendall
Wayne Kendall passed away yesterday after battling a botched surgery for a pin-head black spot on his lung. They removed part of his lung and he lay with breathing tubes and I.V. drips for almost two months before finally succumbing to what was done to him.
Wayne was an author, film maker, father, and friend. He was also my first spiritual mentor and helped me through the darkest days of my life, 31 years ago. I dedicated the Cosmic Chess Match to him.
I last spoke to Wayne on Friday through the intermediary of a nurse, and because of the breathing tube down his throat he could only nod and answer, it was the last time I spoke to him.
Wayne loved Jesus. It’s all he ever talked about. If he thought you were interested in Jesus, he could talk to you for hours. I had conversations with him that went sometimes all day as we worked together side by side. His life revolved around everything that had to do with God, Jesus, and the kingdom of heaven. He was filled with ineffable joy and peace and it radiated from him. He was quick to laugh, slow to anger, reflective and sensitive to other people’s pain and needs. He loved to write long hand and would work in the wee hours of the morning on his book. It was never published and is most likely by now, thousands of pages.
Wayne, I will miss you, but I know that you are in a better place and the joy that you must be experiencing is beyond words…

I just finished reading your book The Cosmic Chess Match.
I really liked it and believe you offer one of the comprehensive syntheses of the underlying biblical message of spiritual warfare.
I was also amazed by Madness In The Fast Lane and noticed something about it that you would find interesting.
In it we see two woman who doggedly seek death by throwing themselves quite effectively into what should be 5 quite lethal traffic collisions. Yet death eludes them every time.
This has a Revelation 9:6 flavor to it.

Oh so sorry for your loss, L.A.! But oh so happy for your friend to be with Him…..you will see him again and it seems, very soon! Prayers said to ease your heart today.
Maybe your final act of friendship for him in this life is to possibly finish and publish his book?

Well, we know that one day, he and J.R. Church will each rise up to meet the Lord in the air while the rest of us just try to catch up as we are caught up (1 Thessalonians 4:16-18). Time to comfort one another with this!

When the mother of a friend of mine died years ago, she too had been keeping a diary for years of her ponderings on Jesus. I was surprised when I asked my friend if she was planning to publish some of her mom’s insights and she said “no.” Unfortunately her daughter (a fundamentalist BJU grad christian) didn’t share the same views as her mom (a non-conforming Jesus lover). How sad that her book will never see the light of day.
In this case, it’s a no-brainer (or should be). The book, out of respect for your friend, needs to be cleaned up, edited, put into some sort of order and published. Whether his relatives do it or someone else, it’s only right!

Very sorry for the loss of a good friend. Perhaps he will save a seat for you next to him in that pew in the sky and you will no longer have to have a nurse mediate your conversation. I will pray for comfort of you and his loved ones. Lord, bless those who mourn.

I read Jer. 50 tonight…wondered if Babylon will be destroyed by a nuclear warhead gone astray…maybe it will be a dual destruction, with Babylon the region being totally wiped out and uninhabitable AND Babylon the capitalistic greed system of Rev. 18 going down the tubes at the same time.

What hospital was he at? Who was his doctor? How many surgeries did he have this time? Last time I spoke to Wayne he sounded very confident that he’s not going to die. I told him to take care of himself and he said “oh..I’m not going to die yet”. He was so confident that it won’t happen, he was laughing, but I had a bad feeling about his uncoming sergery somehow. How could I tell him? I wanted to support him but I was really worried and concerned ( I didn’t know what to do. He wanted to do the surgery.
Wayne was an amazing person! I’m very sad that he left. I hope to read his book someday.

That is why he kept fighting for 2 months, he didn’t want to die, he didn’t want to give up. He wanted to finish his book.

I’m sorry for you loss LA, I’m very saddened to hear this news, it’s always difficult when we lose a dear friend and even more so when we lose a mentor in this life, but we can rejoice he is with Jesus now and he is set free from the suffering and bindings of this world. My prayers go to his family, may the Lord show them peace though their time of grieving and loss.
One thing about close friends and mentors that make an impact and a difference in our lives, there are so few, we will always remember them, they will never forgotten.
