Cosmic Chess Match….

Posted by lamarzulli on April 2, 2010

As I mentioned in yesterdays BLOG, we are in a supernatural war with forces that for the most part remain hidden from the human eye. So it was almost 2000 years ago in this ongoing cosmic chess match, that a very critical move took place. I use the term “cosmic chess match,” because there are two main players that engaged in this war in the heavens, God and Satan. (This is the theme and perhaps the working title for the new book that I am working on.) We know from the Guidebook to the supernatural i.e. the Bible that the spirit of Satan himself entered into Judas and then Judas betrayed Jesus when he “sold” him for 30 pieces of silver. Jesus was then arrested and tried before the Sanhedrin. At this point He could have easily exonerated himself, but instead He chose to say the very words that were deemed blasphemous by the council who sat in judgement of Him. He stated that He was the son of God. He was either a lunatic or, as I believe, truly was who he claimed He be. Then he was taken to Pilate and the Herod and then back to Pilate. In both cases He remained silent and choose not to say anything that could have easily spared His life. He is then brought  before the people who cry, crucify Him! At this point, Satan believes he has won the match, because he believes that if he kills Jesus he will have ended his mission on earth. Of course he isn’t aware that he is playing precisely into what God has destined since the foundation of the world. Jesus is crucified. There is darkness that covers the land for three hours. The huge curtain hanging in the Temple, that separates the Holy of holies from the rest of the temple is torn from top to bottom, by an unseen hand. People who have been dead for years are seen alive and walking in the streets of Jerusalem. There is a violent earthquake that shakes the city. Then Jesus utters His last words, “it is finished,” and he gives up His spirit. What  happens next is not recorded in the Gospel accounts, but we are told elswhere that Jesus descends into the lower parts of the earth where he does two things, the first is he sets the souls free that have been captive there since the days of Adam. The second, is He proclaims victory to the fallen angels that have been imprisoned since the flood. He is proclaiming that the price for sin has been paid, the title-deed to the earth reclaimed,  that man is no longer trapped by sin and death! It is a victory shout! Satan believed that by crucifying Jesus he would have won the cosmic chess match, instead it spelled his doom, literally. It is exactly what Jesus knew would bring the victory and set the human captives free. This cosmic chess match continues and it is for the souls of men and women on this planet. It is very real and this unseen war is raging all around us. The Blood of Jesus has power in the mouth of one who has put his life in the hands of Jesus, because the enemy, Satan, knows that the blood is what spelled his defeat. It turned the tide of the heavenly war. There is power in the blood and it can be our most powerful weapon against the enemy of our souls. We live in a time where men call evil good and good evil. We were told this would happen in the last days, before the return of the King. For many people Good Friday is a day of observance followed by Resurrection Sunday, but most forget that the one who conquered death, promised to return. His kingdom will come and I believe it is soon. Even so, come Lord Jesus, come! Maranantha!

  1. Praise the Lord! What a glorious overview of what this week has been about. May we never forget that the death, burial, and resurrection of the Messiah is esstential Christian doctrine. Resurrection Sunday is absolutely the most important day of the year. If He is not risen our faith is empty, our preaching is useless, and our hope is in vain.

If our Lord had remained in that tomb we are still in our sins. We have hope only in this life, and as Paul stated we are of all men most miserable. Praise God for that fatal move Satan made in the cosmic chess match 2,000 years ago. It meant salvation was now available to all who would believe, recieve, and consequently become children of God. PTL!

    Hi Lynn and Everyone:

I’m glad you wrote about what the Lord did for us and that this is a war and a “cosmic chess match” (good terminology). I have a question that has been on my mind the last few days after meditating on what the Lord did for us during this time 2000 years ago…knowing this is a chess match of good against evil for the souls of mankind…didn’t satan know that Jesus was God…didn’t he know that he couldn’t “kill God”…didn’t he (satan) know that he being a created being, not THE CREATOR, he could never win? If he knew he couldn’t “Kill God”, then what was his motive…was he trying to disqualify God somehow in this chess match so that souls of mankind couldn’t be redeemed? I just can’t understand…if he is so smart, why couldn’t he see he could never win…what an egomaniac!! But I guess when we are unregenerate we are the same way, thinking we are so smart and that we don’t need God. Praise the Lord for his unfailing love and patience towards mankind. Amen

Hi Lisa – I’m going to address some of those questions in the new book! L.A.

      Great Lynn:

Can’t wait to get it…it must be something the Lord is trying to show “us” as I am sure I am not the only one with these questions. Keep us posted about the book and what is the Title going to be again? Thanks and Amen

      Lisa,
You hit the nail on the head:“`
But I guess when we are unregenerate we are the same way, thinking we are so smart and that we don’t need God““
I had a huge argumentation with my extremely intelligent yet lost brother about the LORD. When it was my turn to talk I said, “I will begin where only I can begin. ‘The fear of the LORD is the begining of wisdom’.” It was a good conversation and GOD really blessed me, verbally speaking. But my brother is still denying HIM. My brother is fighting luekemia right now, but I think the LORD has a plan!
Happy Passover to all. Blessings and peace to all the brethren!! Come quickly LORD JESUS! Amen!

      Bless you Dee:

You said you think the Lord has a plan and you are right!! He always does. I’m sorry to hear about your brother but will pray for him and also that the Lord will continue to use you in wonderful ways to plant those seeds as I am sure the Lord has already ministered through you greatly to him, even if it doesn’t seem so at this time. We never know how the Lord is stirring someone’s heart, even when they seem so hard. I will pray for you both. Be blessed as we remember all the Lord has done for us. Amen.

I have the sane question Lisa. I also wonder why Satan was allowed to attempt eve in the garden to start it all. God is all powerful so he had to know what was going on right? I also wonder about the warfare that’s going on and It seems there is a set of rules being played by (like Jesus having to die to save us, Satan always accusing us to the Lord) I wonder what those rules are and why they were made. God is all powerful it just seems like rules of any sort wouldn’t apply no matter what.

      Hi Lisa~
I just wanted to briefly comment on your query about Satan’s knowledge of who Yeshua was/is. Satan may have suspected his identity; for example recall the desert temptations. As far as egging on Yeshua’s death, well…the one thing Satan did NOT know for sure was that by causing Jesus to die on that cross, Satan sealed his own doom. Had he known the future (consequences) do you think he would have been in such a heat to have him killed? You see, Satan is not omniscient and his minions are not clairvoyant! ((they’re just guessing. Lol!))
Have a most blessed and joyous Resurrection weekend:^D

      Hi Moment:

Most certainly satan isn’t omniscient…however, the Lord stated many times in many ways that He was God and equal to God. He stated that he is the I AM…If you have seen Him you have seen the Father…I will rise on the 3rd day…etc., etc., so I guess my question really was, obviously satan heard the Lord declare these things in many ways at many times so how stupid could he have been to think he could still trip the Lord up from His plan…perhaps the enemy doesn’t fully understand the plan even with the Lord’s declarations and even with the written word. I mean, how many of us understood before we were born again?? So he must have thought he was getting one up on God some how by egging on the crucifiction, but maybe because he is in rebellion, disobedience, sin, and evil, his craftiness is not enough to fully understand the Lord’s moves and exactly how He would carry out His Victory. I guess I’m just rambling on here. Thank you so much for sharing your understanding and ideas on the subject and I look forward to more. God bless you. Amen.

I believe that Satan was so filled with hate and rage against God and his Son that he was blinded and blundered into fulfilling God’s word exactly even though he knew the scripture.

    • Pride will obfuscate wisdom every time. I suppose Satan does as good of a job deluding himself as he does of deluding everyone around himself. Classic narcissism and delusions of grandeur.

    LA, Great post! Thank you.
As for our enemy’s motivation at the cross I would say that it is the same as it always has been: to do anything and everything he could (at least in his demented mind) to insult our Lord and try to exalt himself above the throne of God. Perhaps in his arrogance he reasoned that God had mistakenly placed himself in a weakened position of taking on human flesh, flesh that could and would die. Also, if satan could change the Word of God even in the slightest way it would in essence make God a liar and topple Him from His throne. One example of this would be flood of Noah’s time. If satan could corrupt the blood of the human race 100%, then there would not have been a man or woman on earth with uncorrupted blood, hence no clear way to make the Savior 100% God and at the same time (and body) 100% Man. This would have made His sacrifice on the cross just another death. The “man” part would have a satanic mix not pure and God’s ultimate plan for redeeming His chosen ones would have been stopped.

Bottom line, there is no end to the wickedness of our enemy. Nor will I attempt to “get into his mind” to find out the why of his actions. Scripture gives all we need—keep reading and look up for our redemption drawth nigh!!!

    Hi Lynn. Great blog!
Most have discussed this event in relation to Satan’s blunder against the Lord, rather completely.
I would just add a couple of things and perhaps they also might pertain to today.

One, God did not reveal all the details of the coming King. As a matter, most everyone were looking for a King from Herod on down.
A suffering Savior coming to die, was not considered.

Satan is supernatural, but he cannot know the mind of God. God keeps him in the dark.
Satan also had never been involved with a God that was part man. This might have led him into some delusion as to what he could accomplish by killing the Lord.

How much Satan knew regarding the resurrection probably was limited at that time. We tend to take it for granted, because of our knowledge acquired from reading the Gospels.

This same thing I believe, is true today. We can only guess as to what God will do in the end. We have much material in scripture, but how to parse it, is our problem.(and probably Satan’s, as well)
This could be why the Rapture continues to be debated and neither side of it can claim complete knowledge, in spite of the desire.

This keeps Satan off guard as well as if he knew the plan in entirety, he might try to thwart it.

    • Lisa said

      Right on!

    • I believe Satan has lots of ‘irons in the fire’ so to speak for the very reason of which you speak, that he doesn’t know the plan. No matter what scheme Satan eventually cooks up, there is one truth that will remain constant, for truth is unwavering. Faith in Jesus to save us will lead us out of the fire.

Jesus is 100% God and 100% man. He was the perfect atoning sacrifice for our sins. As fully God he did what no ordinary human being can do – give complete obedience to the divine law; as fully man he did what was required on behalf of his brothers and sisters in the flesh – this rules out any contaminated human-demon hybrid. That is why Satan played his hand and he lost. Jesus died and rose again and we can be sure that God will win this cosmic death match.
